Welcome to 2012!

by Capitol Members~ on 01/24/12

2012 is already off to a great start. Invitations and applications for the 2012 World Championships have gone out.  WTSDA HQs is finally making the official and formal move to our region, Region 7, in April of this year.  Region 7 is holding their first Gup Clinic in more than 5 years, down the road a bit in Charlotte, come February 11th, and in March, Capitol TSD Cho Dan Bos and Dans head down to Aiken, SC for our Black Belt pre-test.  CTSD this session will be represented by 3 students who have worked hard to get to this next level.  It's a fantastic accomplishment for them, and an exciting time for the school.

SO - lots going on.  What's not to be excited about?  The winter blues.  January has seen many people struggle a bit with getting back into a healthy workout habit, not to mention eating, drinking and sleeping habits. The weird weather the Mid-Atlantic has had this year hasn't helped.  Temps up and down have laid out a mean schedule of the flu this year, and many of you have gotten caught.

Do yourselves a favor; try to get that 7-8 hours of sleep EACH night; cut down on the beer, and even though it starts out painfully, come to class because you remember how good you feel at the END of each night you do.  It's worth it, and as we all slowly work through January and into February and beyond, trust me, you'll thank yourself for getting back with the program.  See you all at class soon!!!

Holiday Message

by Capitol Members~ on 11/29/11

2011 is drawing to a close, and Capitol is as busy as ever.  Our Winter Gup test will be on Saturday the 10th, as will our annual holiday party and year-end award ceremony.   Looking forward to 2012, the schedule only ramps up.  Ten out of the next twelve months, Capitol and our students will be on the road for tests, tournaments, and the revival of the Region 7 Gup clinic.

The Gup clinic will be a unique opportunity for all students and all levels to travel to NC for a day of training and building new friendships.  Participation will be key to making sure Gup students get continued opportunities like this to participate in regional events, seeing as how our region is so large and thus it's difficult to schedule big events like this.  Therefore, it is my hope that ALL CTSD students plan on participating and spending a fun 36 hours with their classmates and their Region 7 friends.

2012 also sees the return of the WTSDA World Championships in the new HQs region - our own Region 7 - and Greensboro, NC.  2010 saw the 2nd largest world championships ever, and it is Grandmaster Shin's hope that 2012 will be the largest ever!  The new HQs building will be officially dedicated on the 22nd of July and the entire weekend promises to be a really fun time!

As you and yours enter into the 2011 holiday season, I thank you all for supporting Capitol TSD on our continued journey of growth.  Without you, none of what we do is possible.  Trust me, I recognize that every single day and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.

Have a safe and happy holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you all back next year.

Building Friendships

by Capitol Members~ on 11/03/11

The holiday season is upon us, and sometimes we lose track of our training schedules amid all the hustle and bustle of family, friends, outings, etc.   However last weekend, Capitol TSD and Commonwealth TSD joined forces down in Richmond, VA, and met up for an absolutely fabulous day of training and competition preparation.  New friends were made, old friendships more firmly re-established, and two schools that are located far from the hub of Region 7 were able to showcase that when there is a will, there is a way.  Despite the first snow of the season, 7 CSTD students made the journey and came home energized and ready for this weekends' Region 7 Championships down in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Thankfully, the weather this weekend looks to be a bit more friendly.

Enjoy your holiday seasons, but don't forget the power of will when it comes to your TSD training.  Know yourself, know what your personal goals are, and don't lose sight of them amid the twinkle and delight of the next few months.  And if and when you get a chance, ALWAYS make the effort to travel and meet new TSD friends.  That is a gift in an of itself.
